Living the Dream
Complete a comprehensive home renovation by replacing the existing kitchen and bathroom with a new kitchen, bathroom and euro laundry, master ensuite, bedroom closet and storage space.
Ensure the new, contemporary elements are compatible with the home’s original federation features.
Achieve this in a relatively tight space constraint and without delay.
The Kitchen Hive has expertise across any renovation, providing individual trades people as required who seamlessly work in conjunction with the client’s resources. This project, however, utilised our entire design and trades team, including our builder. Further, as the home had been built at the turn of the nineteenth to twentieth century, possible building issues that could arise during the renovation, like worn out plumbing and wiring, out of square walls and uneven floors etc, would need to be checked, considered and rectified as required.
Juxtaposed with a polished concrete floor next to the kitchen, a 60mm Tundra Grey honed marble benchtop with a waterfall on one side was placed atop a white carcase.- an arresting and practical kitchen island breakfast bar/food preparation area with an immediate greeting of opulence.
Other kitchen innovations include: streamlined Blum Antaro drawers, a pull-out pantry, cutlery inserts and a discreetly hidden twin bin. In addition, a clever roller door was installed to conceal the microwave, cookbook collection and ornaments. An Oliveri kitchen sink and tap are also incorporated. Polytec Char Oak veneer was the client choice for floor to ceiling door panels, including the roller door, fridge and freezer doors, creating an elegant feature wall.
Owing to limited space, the Qasair undermount rangehood is hidden with a tailormade box, painted to blend with the wall colour. Black Castella handles to all cabinets and drawers to match the black framed window and alfresco door complete a contemporary and informal space.
Master Ensuite and Bedroom Cabinetry:
Down a polished timber hallway is the master bedroom. On either side of a working fireplace, hand painted floor to ceiling double closets with upper cupboards for additional storage are installed. A frameless shower, round hand basin resting on terrazzo and floating cabinetry incorporating two drawers, make up the compact and luxurious ensuite. The cupboards have been crafted to the same pattern as the bedroom cabinetry, and are also hand painted.
Bathroom and European Laundry:
A little further down, off the hallway is a bathroom incorporating a euro laundry. A Villeroy and Boch butler’s sink is installed in a Carrara marble vanity top. Mirrored overhead cupboard doors, heated towel rail, frameless shower and overhead towel storage are just a few features that create this comfortable and impressive bathroom. Floor to ceiling hand painted cupboards conceal the euro laundry in matching tongue and groove pattern to the vanity cabinetry.
